An Egyptian Rock Band, that writes and composes its own original music and tries to present a new flavour of Progressive instrumental music.

The idea started in 2007 when Muhammad Amin , Nadmin Al Habashy & Muhammad Abu Amna decided to from a band which can embrace their Musical influences. After that Mahmoud Saied (Keyboard) , Amr Fathy (Guitar) & Emad Elway (Bass) joined the band , and that was the main formation that endured for a while.

Beside being in the same band, All CairoKee Members were already long time friends.

The band Consists of mainly 5 members:

Origin of the band Name "Cairokee"??

The name CairoKee (Cairo-Kee) expresses the bands connection with their Egyptian audience, combining Cairo & Karaoke to symbolize their "singing along" with Cairo.

Many of their songs attempt to articulate through music the many elements of contemporary Egyptian society that drive their generation.

Their hugely successful tracks, Sout El Horreya, Matloob Za3eem, Efred Genahak and more recently, Ya El Medan along with many more, have connected with and galvanized young people over the world in their search for Freedom and Dignity.

CHEEN is a pop rock band from Cairo, formed by Cherine Amr.

Code Masr is an Egyptian band formed of young musicians, sharing a passion for music, creating a blend of Egyptian Contemporary Rock.

‘DAHAB’ was formed in 2004 - as a response to a need by the Dubai International Jazz Festival for an acoustic cover band. Since then, we have developed our signature ‘acoustic ethnic fusion’ sound to include a mix of instrumentals, covers and original compositions. We have produced and released 2 full-length albums and in the past 9 years –have played to thousands of people across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Cairo and Bahrain. Our FB page has gained more than 5,000 likes and our first album has been streamed more than 100,000 times on-line.

‘DAHAB’ have been active on the original music scene in the UAE since 2004 and have succeeded in becoming one of the most sought after bands for concerts, music festivals and corporate functions.

‘DAHAB’ has also been featured on well-known TV stations in the region including ROTANA, MBC1 , DUBAI ONE TV, AL AAN TV, and WANASAH.

In January 2009, ‘DAHAB’ released their first album - “Spirit of Sinai” online. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Sound Design Studios In Cairo. The album was produced independently and is currently available for sale via digital distributors such as iTunes, CDBaby, Amazon, Napster, Jamendo and Nokia Music Express Store. It has been streamed more than 100,000 times to date.

In September 2011, ‘DAHAB’ completed the recording of 10 original new tracks for their second album “Qabeela’h” which was released in the last quarter of 2011. After a brief distribution deal with Daxar - which saw the album successfully released in Virgin Megastores in the UAE - they began negotiations with international music publishers and A&R professionals to secure a worldwide on-line distribution deal. Both albums are available on iTunes and Amazon as digital downloads.

The current line-up of ‘Dahab’ is a 4-piece.

With a list of high profile gigs and press coverage in The National, Time-Out and on-line music sites like Jamendo and TuneCore - ‘DAHAB’ are set to continue their musical journey and are planning the recording of their 3rd album ‘Raya’h’ in 2013. ‘DAHAB’ are actively seeking to be featured in more high profile events and concerts in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and are also interested in securing bookings to tour regional and international cities and festivals. Our performances are a mix of rock, blues, folk, reggae and ethnic fusion and our music appeals to audiences from all backgrounds and countries.

Darwasha is an independent musical project, that mixes Oriental and Egyptian Folk Music with Rock.

Mohamed Darwish (Guitarist, Oud player & Composer) founded the project Jan 2012 with a group of musicians/friends to establish Darwasha band, benefiting from his past experience through his work at theater musical composing as well as Rock & Metal bands in which he participated, Darwish is developing a unique fusion with a contemporary oriental taste.

Mohamed Ehab A.k.a Dawsha Was born in 1994. Cairo .

Dawsha began his career as a rapper in 2010, as his first work was "Ah Magroo7".

He was known for being much funnier than anyone else during his performances or even in the words of his songs which he depends on to make his audience happy when they see him, listen to him or even when discussing something with him, as he sees that the best way to solve problems is to laugh.

His lifelong mission is for people to be united by his songs and for them to know that we all are just one person. Dawsha's songs describe his life and experiences and that's a main part of his mission in life for his fans, as he wants to describe what he sees of events and situations throughout the world and for his life to be a story for all rap lovers.

With her powerful, nuanced voice and authentic style, Egyptian singer and composer Dina El Wedidi has spent the past six years carving out her place in the Egyptian music scene. While studying oriental languages at the University of Cairo, Dina joined El Warsha Theatre Troupe, exploring Egyptian folklore and performing in such unlikely places as a Cairo prison, and later she performed classical Egyptian and Arabic songs with the Habayebna band. These experiences pushed Dina to sing in many styles, and were the impetus for her to begin composing her own songs. In 2011, she took the fundamental next step and formed her own band; from here her success has soared.

In 2011 she became one of the first members of the Nile Project, a cultural and environmental ethnomusicology project which she spent 3 years with, collaborating with musicians from all of the Nile Countries, touring through East Africa and the United States, and making 2 albums (Aswan, Jinja). In 2012 Wedidi was selected by Gilberto Gil and the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative as a protégé, which allowed her to be mentored by the great Brazilian music icon. The two performed together at Back2Black, part of the London 2012 Festival. They later met for musical events and conversations in Switzerland, the United States, Brazil and Egypt. . In 2013, they performed together at the Cairo Jazz Festival, and he advised her on her debut album, guest performing on the song “El Leil.” This album, Turning Back (Tedawar W’Tergaa) was released in 2014. Dina’s achievements are many more; she performed at TEDGlobal in Scotland, participated in workshops with Grammy award winner Fathy Salama, Kamilya Jubran, and has worked with the Mazaher Ensemble in Cairo. She has performed throughout Egypt, and in Jordan, Tunisia, Sudan, England, Italy, Norway and Sweden. El Wedidi describes her music as New Egyptian Folk and Arab Fusion.

One of Egypt's most awesome and unique female DJs, having played her bumpin' tracks and mixes all over from Gouna to Cairo, her sound is top notch and a favorite to many.

One of Egypt's coolest and upcoming indie folk bands come together from different parts of the world to share their energy and music.

I started spinning in 2014 and have been teaching what I have learnt all through the journey.

By March 2016 I started working on my Spinning school, where we are going to be sharing knowledge of poi, staff, magic acts, juggling and anything related to street art.

I started performing live in May 2016 in the Ninja Warriors event that took place in Sahl Hasheesh and the the team consisted of 10 LED spinners and 3 fire Spinners and one assistant to make sure we documented our first team performance achievement.

And ever since I participated in this event and I started to receive gigs all around the Middle East.

More of an infusion than a fusion, Egyptian Project is the result of a long and committed collaboration between the defenders of Egyptian tradition and a young French musician who mix the sounds of the Nile delta and Cairo with the ambiances of trip-hop, electro, hip-hop, and even classical music. “The fluvial meeting of oriental fragrances and minimalist electronic sounds” makes for a journey into unexplored territories.

One can only dream of distant times when musicians, dancers, and all different kinds of artists lingered in the neighborhoods and cafés of Cairo, awaiting nightly propositions to perform at parties, weddings or child births.

Its an electronic-acoustic vibe that reveals and awakens the beauty of the music of the Nile riverbanks and carries listeners to far and distant lands. It's the undertaking of Jérôme Ettinger, a musician without borders and the art director of the project lead by the association Togezer Productions. For over 10 years, he multiplied the number of musical experiments, artists residencies, and meetings in France and in Egypt and organized many educational activities around traditional Egyptian instruments (rababa, percussion, violin, singing and kawala) and computer made music.

Jérôme, while immersing himself in the Egyptian culture, was fostered by Jean Paul Romann (a sound engineer for Tinariwen, Lojo...) during a pre-production and recording session. Rodolphe Gervais (a sound engineer for Ray Charles, Assassin, Idir...) later took up the recording and mixing of the Album at Studio du Faune.

One can only imagine the difficulty: conjoining sequencers with the maqsoum, baladi or ayoub rhythms of the master percussionist Ragab Sadek ; conciliating the incredible outpourings of singer and kawala player Sayed Eman with the contemporary vocal work of Jérôme Ettinger; tuning the notes of the famous rababa player and violinist Salama Metwally with a computer; and associating electronic programming with the subtlety of modal music and its relentless quarter tones.

“Patience is a beautiful thing”, as they say in Egypt. And Jérôme Ettinger took his time. Himself being an argûl player (a rare Egyptian double clarinet), he learned to play with the famous Mostafa Abdel Aziz (Musiciens du Nil, Mozart l’égyptien, Peter Gabriel...). Accompanied from the start by his friend Ihab Radwan, an oud player (who worked with Hugues de Courson on Mozart l'égyptien), Jérôme Ettinger keeps his project alive both on stage and on the album, where we find the participation of the oud player. The project is destined to evolve with a feminine voice from Cairo as well as other musicians met along the way.

El Dor El Awal started with a jam between Ahmed Omar and Mohamed Samy. The two of them created a few tunes and decided to form a band, which would play music, original music, its own music. Omar got his two friend Bob and Mizo who played with him in another band called Wust El Balad. And Samy got Naïssam, the French-Syrian girl he met playing with Fathi Salama, Nour, a friend from Alexandria and Fadi an old friend of his.

They began rehearsing in this cute flat on the first floor of a building, playing day and night for six months, to build a repertoire for el Dor El Awal. They were almost living together in this flat playing and searching for a personal sound, far from the considerations of the Egyptian musical market. They felt they were pouring their souls out on that first floor. So they decided to actually call the band El Dor El Awal that literally means the first floor in Egyptian dialect.

El Dor El Awal is not your typical Egyptian band. Even its formation is unusual. Two percussionists that play an original set with bongos, congas, kakhon, tabla and elements from the drums, a keyboard that uses a piano sound as well as electronic effects to add colors to the music. And finally a flute, a violin, and a saxophone, that create a very particular brass section.

Blending in their different musical backgrounds and adding each their personal touch, El Dor El Awal have truly succeeded on creating their own personal style and constantly delivering some fresh tunes that make their way straight into the hearts of the audience.

El Joker has become one of the region's hottest rap and hip/hop artists, electrifying his crowd with his strong vocals and self-produced music.

Ahmed Harfoush is an Egyptian jazz vocalist based in London. With a long career starting in Cairo, he is the premier jazz vocalist and entertainer in Egypt and has been performing there and around the world for over two decades. He is the co-founder of the Cairo Jazz Festival, where he currently holds the position of Chairman, and the director of Cairo’s most in-demand jazz ensemble The Riff Band.

Harfoush received voice training privately and at London’s Mountview Academy for Theatre Arts. Harfoush’s passion for music and the stage began when he sang with numerous choirs performing excerpts from classic Broadway and West End musicals. Spending his childhood in the United States, he was exposed to the American music legacy.

His first international jazz performance was at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, performing ‘The Cole Porter Song Book’ with accomplished Scottish musicians.

His first original song, ‘Music Makes me Swing’, was recorded in 2007 by American producer Darryl Kennedy as part of a compilation album project, ‘Voices from the Sand’. Kennedy collaborated with Harfoush and the Riff Band and recorded their arrangement of the classic tune ‘Tea for Two’.

HarfousH performed in Paris, London, Berlin, Milano, Larnaca, Greece, Slovenia, Budapest, Dubai, Prague, Damascus with New York City’s Chris Byars Jazz Quartet, Skopje with the Macedonia Philharmonic and most recently in a Christmas concert in December 2016 in Cambridge with the Cambridgeshire Youth Orchestra along with conductor Timothy Redmond.

He created the HarfousH Jazz Band in London in October 2016, performing his new “Egyptian Jazz Projekt” featuring swing and latino versions of 1940s and 1950s iconic Egyptian pop songs. He performed this project at the 2016 Brighouse Art Festival in the UK.

HarfousH is working on his new original electro-swing single “Sweet Little Sin” with composer/lyricist Nadine Wild Palmer and music producer Leon Sanders, to be out in early 2017.⁠⁠⁠⁠

Hassan Ramzy is a growing Egyptian musician who mainly plays guitar and sings. he prefers almost all types of Acoustic, Rock and Blues. He writes and composes his own music but also likes to cover other artists.

"I've been playing music since about 2004. Music is everything to me! I compose and write my own songs, as well as cover many others. I am currently Majoring in Psychology, but hope to pursue a career in music!"

Hawas is an independent Egyptian band, formed in Cairo in 2014. Hawas presents alternative music that aims at exploring new musical dimensions through mixing different music genres. Hawas’ distinguished sound comes from progressive music mixed with the drama of melody and lyrics as a special mean of human expression. Hawas’ lyrics revolve around tales of humans; be it suffering, happiness, memories or journeys of self discovery.

Hawas self produced two EPs in 2015, “Hawas” and “Like Winter”. Hawas performed multiple live shows in and outside of Cairo, and also took part in important events such as Carthage Music Festival 2017, D-CAF festival 2017, and the opening of Goethe Film Week, 2016.

Hawas was formed by five former members of “Maghna Khan” band and currently consists of eight musicians: Mahmoud Khateeb (Lead Vocal), Marwan Fawzi (Accordion), Amir Rasmy (Keyboards), Hisham Anas (Oud), Al-Moataz Bellah Moussa (Lead Guitar), Mahmoud Waly (Bass Guitar), Ahmed Tito (Drums) and Bouda Abu El Yazeed (Percussions).

The WORDS

The lyrics to our music come from our two poet wizards: Mohamed Abdallah (“Sony”) and Khaled Helmy. Their words and stories are as diverse as the band members and backgrounds, extending from love to tales about the Nuba. Sony and Khaled are old friends who understood what we wanted to do and where we wanted to take the music. They write the words that connect with the music we make and bring back that African spirit home.

HAWIDRO in Nubian means the ‘return’ and has become the philosophy of what we do—we wanted the return of our heritage, particular our African side that has long left behind. We’d all probably agree that there isn’t really a genre out there that describes what we do. But, if we had to choose two words that portrays our music, it’s Afro-Egyptian—unique, boundless, and encompassing everything different and creative about where we live.

Our Story: We are 8 guys who’ve known each other for years from other collaborations and other projects, who one day got together and discovered that we all have been experimenting with a lot of African music. Each of us came with a long list of influences and musical backgrounds, but we collectively loved Egyptian music and wanted to somehow connect it with our interests in the African side of our identity. Even though Egypt is properly in the African continent, there really weren’t many groups that were playing African music that wasn’t folklore, traditional, or some mainstream experiment. Basically, no one was bringing much of Africa into Egypt. So, the idea for initiating a project like this has been floating for a while between us…but this story is definitely not as interesting as what we’re doing now.

Our Music: The simple side of our complicated vision is that we are adapting and creating a sound that links our African heritage and our Egyptian identity. We are NOT A FUSION group. But, we are focused on creating/recreating, inventing/innovating, and everything in between to produce stuff that’s original. The sound of our music is the combination of A LOT of instruments and our different backgrounds that reflect both our individual character as musicians and our multiple identities—as African and as Egyptian. But, the uncomplicated truth is that we’re really about challenging everything in the reality we live. And, we just want to make great music!

In five years…? We want our music to leave a footprint on that global stage.

Part of Wetrobots ♥ Bosaina and co-founder of Epic 101 Studios, Hussein Sherbini has been involved in music since the age of 8. Today, Hussein’s work is a combination of sound design and visual art experimentation.

Sherbini’s greatly fascinated by sound design and the live element, hence his live shows are always a conceptual journey of sound and light. Following the release of his debut EP Fairchile, Sherbini toured Europe along with the KIK with an audio visual show that followed the EP’s artwork concept.

Sherbini is currently working on his upcoming release which will also be coupled with a live visual concept, only this time using a new method similar to holographic projection to complete the show. Sherbini’s main influence comes from loud music with all its forms and jazz.

Janan is an Egyptian pop rock band formed by Singer songwriter Noha Fekry in 2016, who was later joined by Guitarist Youssef Elsioufy , as well as Keys player Ahmed Kamar, Bassist Peter Lawrence, and drummer Mohamed Alfakharany (Simo).

The band plays original music composed by Noha Fekry, and arranged by Janan, mixing dramatic lyrics and modern pop-rock sounds.

This energetic and talented group out of Cairo in Egypt started at the beginning of 2008. Having met each other through talent shows, friends and the underground music circuit in Cairo the group was eventually formed.

Since then they have performed all over Egypt at concerts, festivals and gigs such as;

The main message of this group is “The Resistance for whatever you resist for”.

Their music adheres to all ages from the young to the old. The youth love the music because the music talks to their problems and needs in everyday life. The older crowd is drawn to their music because of the nostalgic feel it creates which often reminds them of the 60’s and 70’s.

The group’s main goal and aim is to spread the Rock music spirit all around the world and to also make people around the world change the image they have about Arab culture.

This group has huge talent and drives and will soon be a staple on the Middle Eastern rock scene.
