My name is Adam Benjamin, founder of Benjamin Exposure. We cover a range of services from wedding videography, products, food and beverages, corporate headshots and events for both videography and photography. We are based between London and Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but cover shoots worldwide.

This is a traditional form of weaving practiced by Bedouin women in rural communities. Traditionally men shear goats and camels, and the wool is cleaned and prepared by the women. The yarn is spun on a drop spindle, then dyed using local plant extracts (such as henna or saffron), and then woven on a floor loom using a warp-faced plain weave.

The traditional colours are black, white, brown, beige and red, with distinctive patterns in the form of narrow bands of geometric designs. The result is colorful products - clothing, camel and horse decorations, Bedouin tents, majlis floor pillows, carpets and mats.

Traditionally, women gather in small groups to spin and weave, exchanging family news and occasionally chanting and reciting poetry. Such gatherings are also the means of transmitting the tradition: girls learn by watching, and are gradually given tasks to do, such as sorting the wool, before learning the more intricate skills involved.

A traditional verse that gives voice to the essence of Bedouin life

Al-Taghrooda has its origins in the desert and mountainous regions, and rural villages of the United Arab Emirates as a form of improvised poetry among Bedouin camel riders and herders. Today, it is found throughout the nation and is a beloved component of UAE culture.

This chanted poetry was developed to help pass the long hours during desert treks on camelback. Riders also believed it encouraged the animals to walk in time with each other, and could even be used to increase their pace as the chanters quickened the rhythm of the poem.

Riders would improvise the words of each Al-Taghrooda poem during their journeys, creating short poems of seven or fewer lines, each of which is then repeated alternately between two groups of riders. Generally, a lead singer would chant the first line and the rest of the group would respond. Then the second line would be chanted and then repeated, and so on.

Themes

Al-Taghrooda's poetry is straightforward and does not use complex metaphors. One of its most important traditional functions was to document the social and cultural history of the region.

The most common theme in Al-Taghrooda is the love and devotion of the singer to loved ones, other relatives, friends, and tribal chiefs. Poets also use Al-Taghrooda to comment on social issues, highlight historical achievements and give advice on topics ranging from safe driving to healthy behaviour. It even is used to help settle disputes among individuals and tribes.

Poems are frequently cited in daily conversations and are seen as an important source of wisdom and insight into Emirati history.

Some of the most well-known Al-Taghrooda poets in the UAE include Obaid Ibn-Maa'aded Al Nua`imi, from Al Wajan; Ahmad Ibn-Salem Bal Abda Al Shamsi, from Al Ain; and Mohammed Ibn-Hamed Al Manhali, also from Al Ain.

A Glimpse Back:

Today, Al-Taghrooda performances give Emirati audiences insight into their history and cultural heritage and provide a glimpse into the traditional Emirati way of life. In a change from the past, Al-Taghrooda is not necessarily accompanied by chanting. Also new is how it is being enjoyed in written and recorded form, as well as at live events.

These poems are chanted around campfires, at weddings, at camel races, and at heritage and national festivals, while some forms of Al-Taghrooda are incorporated into traditional performances, such as Al-Ayyala. Women also compose and chant Al-Taghrooda poems while engaged in collective work, such as Al-Sadu weaving.

For Emiratis, the most important aspect of this poetry is the social bonding that happens during the exchange of verses.

In 2012, Al-Taghrooda was inscribed on the UNESCO 'Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity'.

Alice worked in theatre shows- Batman Live, World Arena Tour (Warner Bros), Jesus Christ Superstar World Arena Tour(Andrew Lloyd Webber), La Divina Commedia Opera Italian Tour- and performed her acts in some of the most prestigious venues in the world-The Box Soho(London), Baroque Mayfair(London), Circus (London) Supperclub (London and Dubai), White (Dubai and Beirut).

Alysia Knowles is a talented spoken word poet and writer currently based in the United Arab Emirates.

Anny has been performing on stage more then 7 years, including worlds top destinations: Pacha Dubai, Olivia Valere Marbella, Ultra Music Festival Miami and Pacha Marrakech.

For the last 3 years she visited with her aerial and dancing show USA, Spain, France, India, UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, Sierra Leone and Cyprus.

Travelling helped her to take the best of the worlds club entertainment and combine it in her shows to make them unique and memorable.

The band started when the friends Michael and Fadi gathered and started jamming in 2010, after few sessions the chemistry was undeniable and the result was some very interesting ideas. The band is joined by Serge who is part of the songwriting process.

The name came from the Ancient Arameans who lived in the region where the band musicians hail from, with their very rich mythology as they worshipped Assyro-Babylonian gods such as Haddad (Adad), Sin, Ishtar, Shamash and Nergal, and Caananite-Phoenician deities such as the storm-god, El, the supreme deity of Canaan, Anat(‘Atta) and others.

Art By Z.A.S. is a self-taught artist from Russia, based in Dubai. All her work inspired by the spirit of Africa. She works with acrylic on canvas, acrylic on people , as well she has a T-Shirt line called "FEEL IT".

The single “Go-Go” was released on DubaiEye radio station, and the first album will be released in 2016. When I'm not at my day job, I support a children's language program devoted to children's learning of Arabic through MUSIC.

I produced and composed an album comprised of 16 Arabic nursery jingles to support this program. As mentioned previously, I grew up with a foreign language taking the place of my own mother tongue so this project is very close to my heart. I am also a mentor at the Rock Camp for Girls UAE; a Dubai-based non-profit organization that builds the self-esteem of girls aged 7-17 through music creation.
