My name is Abdel Majhad & I’m a professional dancer & choreographer. I’m 31 years old and am originally from Morocco but since December 2019 I have lived in Dubai.

My dancing career started at a very young age, when I found my big inspiration, Michael Jackson & copied him in front of the tv - It was here I knew dancing was what I was made to do! Therefore, my specialty when it comes to my dancing career is that I imitate Michael Jackson & do shows as you’ve never seen before. I have done MJ shows all over the world, both in front of big audiences & smaller companies. You’ll see me come up at the stage looking like Michael Jackson, dressed like him & dance like him. My passion is to keep his legacy alive & if you’ll see the show, I promise you’ll understand the love I have for this specialty of mine.

Originally from the North of England, Adrian has been working as a professional entertainer for the past 25 years in a number of capacities. Excelling as a professional magician, balloon sculptor, actor, MC and working alongside skins characters.

From an early love of magic, Adrian spent many an hour honing his craft, before venturing into the professional world of magic and illusion. From residencies in Tenerife to contracts on cruise ships, corporate events and many a party or gathering he has wowed and astounded audiences from all over the world!

With his experience of live performance, Adrian was requested to enter the acting world and made his acting debut many years ago in pantomime. He has since gone on to work in a number of pantomimes and live shows.

I have been a professional Ice skater for 10 years and competed across Spain and joined the Catalan ice skating Federation.

I also graduated in Dramatic Arts at the theatre school Nancy Tuñón with the Stanislavski method, in Barcelona. Started my education in Circus and contemporary dance in Brussels and continued in Barcelona.

A performance of valor.

An embodiment of Emirati values and heritage, Al-Ayyala involves male performers holding thin bamboo canes and moving to the rhythm of drums.

Perhaps the most well-known traditional dance in the United Arab Emirates, Al-Ayyala is performed by men and boys who hold thin bamboo canes and move in unison to a steady drummed rhythm. Al-Ayyala is represented at weddings, national holidays, and other celebrations.

Deeply embedded in UAE culture, Al-Ayyala exemplifies the ethos and gallantry of Bedouin life and reinforces the values of dignity and honor. Because it reflects the heritage and values of Emirati culture, the dance has become a symbol of national identity and union.

Symbolic Battle

Al-Ayyala involves two rows of 20 or more performers facing each other in a stylized battle scene, with the thin bamboo canes representing arrows or swords. The men in each row stand shoulder to shoulder, with their left hand on the back of the person to their left.

Each row of performers makes alternating movements with their heads, shoulders, arms, and canes to suggest victory or defeat – always moving in time to the beat of the drums. At the same time, they chant lines of verse, often from Nabati poetry, on the topics of valor and chivalry.

Al-Ayyala has been practiced for generations by people across the UAE, including both coastal and inland communities. The dance has such significance that it was inscribed in 2014 on the UNESCO 'Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity'.

This is a traditional form of weaving practiced by Bedouin women in rural communities. Traditionally men shear goats and camels, and the wool is cleaned and prepared by the women. The yarn is spun on a drop spindle, then dyed using local plant extracts (such as henna or saffron), and then woven on a floor loom using a warp-faced plain weave.

The traditional colours are black, white, brown, beige and red, with distinctive patterns in the form of narrow bands of geometric designs. The result is colorful products - clothing, camel and horse decorations, Bedouin tents, majlis floor pillows, carpets and mats.

Traditionally, women gather in small groups to spin and weave, exchanging family news and occasionally chanting and reciting poetry. Such gatherings are also the means of transmitting the tradition: girls learn by watching, and are gradually given tasks to do, such as sorting the wool, before learning the more intricate skills involved.

A traditional verse that gives voice to the essence of Bedouin life

Al-Taghrooda has its origins in the desert and mountainous regions, and rural villages of the United Arab Emirates as a form of improvised poetry among Bedouin camel riders and herders. Today, it is found throughout the nation and is a beloved component of UAE culture.

This chanted poetry was developed to help pass the long hours during desert treks on camelback. Riders also believed it encouraged the animals to walk in time with each other, and could even be used to increase their pace as the chanters quickened the rhythm of the poem.

Riders would improvise the words of each Al-Taghrooda poem during their journeys, creating short poems of seven or fewer lines, each of which is then repeated alternately between two groups of riders. Generally, a lead singer would chant the first line and the rest of the group would respond. Then the second line would be chanted and then repeated, and so on.

Themes

Al-Taghrooda's poetry is straightforward and does not use complex metaphors. One of its most important traditional functions was to document the social and cultural history of the region.

The most common theme in Al-Taghrooda is the love and devotion of the singer to loved ones, other relatives, friends, and tribal chiefs. Poets also use Al-Taghrooda to comment on social issues, highlight historical achievements and give advice on topics ranging from safe driving to healthy behaviour. It even is used to help settle disputes among individuals and tribes.

Poems are frequently cited in daily conversations and are seen as an important source of wisdom and insight into Emirati history.

Some of the most well-known Al-Taghrooda poets in the UAE include Obaid Ibn-Maa'aded Al Nua`imi, from Al Wajan; Ahmad Ibn-Salem Bal Abda Al Shamsi, from Al Ain; and Mohammed Ibn-Hamed Al Manhali, also from Al Ain.

A Glimpse Back:

Today, Al-Taghrooda performances give Emirati audiences insight into their history and cultural heritage and provide a glimpse into the traditional Emirati way of life. In a change from the past, Al-Taghrooda is not necessarily accompanied by chanting. Also new is how it is being enjoyed in written and recorded form, as well as at live events.

These poems are chanted around campfires, at weddings, at camel races, and at heritage and national festivals, while some forms of Al-Taghrooda are incorporated into traditional performances, such as Al-Ayyala. Women also compose and chant Al-Taghrooda poems while engaged in collective work, such as Al-Sadu weaving.

For Emiratis, the most important aspect of this poetry is the social bonding that happens during the exchange of verses.

In 2012, Al-Taghrooda was inscribed on the UNESCO 'Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity'.

I am an Italian professional dancer based in Dubai and I have worked for video clips, films, dance concerts, shows, and tv shows.

Alex Truglio is a professional Choreographer and performer, with a Diploma in performing arts attended at Tiffany Theatre College in UK.

During and after graduation he has worked for Katy Perry at the O2 UK, in Tv Shows for Sky1 and BBC, Cast Dancer for Princess and Carnival Cruise Lines in Los Angeles and Miami.

In the Middle East he co-choreographed with Reem Naamani for Ahlam concert and for many very well knowns artists during the Trio Night in Saudi Arabia.

He also performed for Beats Festival for various international artists, for the Closing Cerimony of Expo 2020 and in many other different events as Ads for Yas Mall (Abu Dhabi), Kenichi Show (winner of American Got Talent) and "Rhyme" by Sima Dance Company which he is part of.

A very versatile choreographer and performer in multiple styles, from Salsa to Hip Hop, from Commercial to Contemporary, he developed his own style during the years of very different jobs and training he attended.
